The Bags, Hong Kong Cafe, Chinatown, Los Angeles, 1979
The Hong Kong Café in Los Angeles’ Chinatown opened in response to the banning of punk bands, especially bands with girls in them, from the first Chinatown venue to book punk, Madame Wong’s. The Bags played at Madame Wong’s in 1978, and the place was trashed, thus the ban! Hey, we couldn’t help it; the energy coming from The Bags was too great to keep within the confines of the small stage! I love this image of The Bags performing at the Hong Kong Café, capturing their in-between song chatter; Pat Bag and Alice Bag, Terry Dad Bag and Craig Lee. I was a lucky kid to have seen these incredible artists!
